fluke, or the best discovery ever?

Happy Thursday, blogworld! This morning, I’m up like I’m supposed to be. It’s okay. I don’t feel like a smoothie yet, but when I do make one (probably in an hour or so), I’m going to make my very first Green Monster! I’m very excited. I had been holding off on blendin’ up the real greens because of my kale incident (read: chew, chew, chew), but I’m hearing that spinach blends very nicely, even if you don’t have a super powered blender, so I’m all for that!

This morning’s brew is Trader Joe’s Smooth & Mellow Decaf:

It’s okay. I think in terms of decaf, my favorite is still WF’s 360 brand, house blend decaf. Ironically, HTB gets many many samples of coffees from vendors who want to get into his stores, so we have tons of regular coffee. However, if I drink more than a cup of full strength Joe, I get kinda like this:

So I try to steer away from that, because, as you can imagine, it’s a mess. Anyhow, flashback to yesterday, because I finally tried that gosh darn BREAKFAST COOKIE! The protein powder I used was Amazing Grass chocolate, and yeah, I don’t think it is the best for that application, but otherwise, that cookie was so cool! So cool, in fact, that I ate it as a bedtime snack!

I know she’s not the prettiest cookie, but I’m into this! Can’t wait until my Sun Warrior protein arrives so I can try it out with that. I have some Whey protein in the cupboard, but don’t really want to put that in the bod right now. From what I remember, Whey makes me gassy under normal circumstances, so after a month of clean eats, it’d probably be painful.

Last night I hit up TJs because I was out of tofu, and also ran across the most delicious discovery EVAH! Vegetable Masala Burgers! Do you guys know about these/have you tasted them? They are like… the filling in a samosa crossed with a potato pancake. I enjoyed so much, with my kale and sauerkraut (is that a weird combo?)

Yummy! The stats on these, for one patty: 120 calories, 8 grams of fat, 1 gram sat fat, 2 g protein. Ingredients: Potatoes, canola oil, carrots, green beans, water, wheat bread crumbs, bell peppers, onions, corn, salt, sugar, ginger, cellulose gum, spices, citric acid, turmeric, mustard seeds. Not too bad for a quickie dinner. I would prefer no cellulose gum and no saturated fat at all, but that’s okay. I had to prevent myself from cookin’ up another, because while they were so tasty, I wasn’t really hungry still, I just wanted to eat stuff. I drank green tea instead, and felt good.

So, you’re probably wondering, was that title just a gimmick to get me to click? No no no! I save the best (maybe) for last!

For the last couple of nights I’ve been using pure coconut oil as a moisturizer for my super dry winter skin. It’s been okay! And it smells heavenly. I basically just took a blob from the coconut oil I use for cooking and put it in a little airtight container to keep in the bathroom.

Well, last night, feeling crazzzzeeee, I checked out the zit friends on my chin (they love it there) after washing my face, and instead of putting on my usual AHA and then a smothering of BP, I just covered my face in coconut oil. I basically thought, hey, it’ll either be great or really awful!

It was great! I woke up this morning to really soft facial skin, and my zits were significantly decreased. With a natural, gentle, product. Did you guys already know this about coconut oil? I’m not going to totally freak out and start worshipping it yet, because it’s only one night. I’ll try it for a week or so and then come back to ya, but I just had to share because my acne is a source of true AGONY, because it’s like, I finally get rid of one and another comes rolling around. It’s irritating and dumb.
